The Climate Hazards Group has a shared Google Calendar called "CHG Schedule". This shared calendar is designed to inform CHG folks of important/interesting work-related events, schedule group or open meetings, note an individual's availability (i.e. vacations or travel), or other events which should appear on the general CHG calendar. Personal events or closed meetings between only a few individuals are not appropriate for this calendar. Please email Greg and/or Libby to be invited to the shared calendar. A Google Account (such as the one that comes with a Gmail account) is required.

Helpful Calendar Notation

When creating an event on the Google Calendar, please first note your name and the type of event you are scheduling. For example, if you wanted to note that you would be on vacation, in the "What" field you should enter your name followed by the word "Vacation" in brackets (see [#Calendar Entry Examples | below).

Calendar Entry Examples

Our example user "Bart" is a very busy guy. He is going on vacation, inviting CHGer's to listen to a "test talk", hosting a brown bag lunch, going away for a conference, and suggesting a happy hour to celebrate a paper he just got published.

To start, Bart logs in to his Google (or Gmail) account to access his Google Calendar. Then, he clicks on the date of the event he wants to create to bring up the Event Creation popup. He can just enter information into the "What" field and specify the 'CHG Schedule' calendar from there if he's in a hurry, but since he has time he will click "Edit Event" to give more details (clicking the "Create Event" button will simply create the event with his default settings).

From the Edit Event page, Bart can edit the title of the event, specify the start and end times of the event (or check the "All Day" box if the event has no specific start time), specify the location (if applicable) in the "Where" field, and provide details about the event in the "Description" field. Bart can also change the color of the event and tweak notifications here (for more details, check out Google's help page for creating events).
