If you are off campus and need to access campus resources, such as CHG servers, you will need to use the VPN to obtain a campus IP in order to have access to those resources.


Getting Started

  • The Campus VPN software can be obtain here.
  • Choose the appropriate VPN software from the list based on your operating system.
  • You will need to enter your UCSB NetID username and password in order to download the software.
  • Once downloaded, install per the instructions provided for your OS by ETS.

Mac OSX Yosemite Installation Notes

Some may experience difficulty connecting to the VPN with Yosemite. Below is a configuration known to work with 10.10.3. If a setting is not mentioned, keep the setting at default.

  • Connect: When Tunnelblick launches
  • Set DNS/WINS: Set nameserver
  • OpenVPN version: default
  • check monitor network settings

ADVANCED

The following items should have a check. If an item is not listed, it should remain unchecked.

Connecting & Disconnecting
  • Check if the apparent public IP address changed after connecting
  • Flush DNS cache after connecting or disconnecting
  • Show configuration on tunnelblick menu
  • Set DNS after routes are set instead of before routes are set
Fast User Switching
  • disconnect when user switches out
  • reconnect when user switches in
  • load tun driver automatically
  • load tap driver automatically
While Connected
  • Route all IPv4 traffic through VPN
  • Monitor network settings (all items default in dropdown menu)
VPN Credentials
  • All configurations use Common credentials
